About me

I am the PGR Development Officer based within the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester and I work in the Researcher Development Team.  I am also the Programme Manager for artsmethods@manchester which explores research methods and approaches to research in the arts, languages & cultures. Before coming to Manchester I was at Keele University where I was awarded my PhD in Medieval History in 2008.  During my time as a researcher I taught undergraduates at Keele and at Liverpool University, completed research in Rome and presented my work at national and international conferences both in the UK and in the USA and Canada.  I also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in HE (PGCert HE) at Keele in 2006 and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I am also a qualified CIPD accredited training professional and my job involves designing and delivering the Researcher Development Programme at Faculty level, it also involves researching into new opportunities for the development of early-career researchers, as well as organising various events and workshops.  I am also a trained GRAD School facilitator.  I am particularly interested in how researchers market their PhD’s outside of the Higher Education sector and have recently designed a programme which is aimed at those researchers who make that leap from academia to the outside world.  I am also interested in Web 2.0 technologies and their impact on researcher development.
